In light of the latest weather updates for our locality, I wanted to share our processes for any closure of school due to unsafe conditions, including snow and ice on the roads.
- Our site manager is on site from 7am, and he will give me an update in terms of road conditions and conditions around school.
- Our governors are very local – including the Chairs – and they will give a local context for Stoke St Mary route and Staple Fitzpaine.
- If it is deemed too dangerous for families and staff to travel into school, then I will notify all families as close to 7am as is possible. Many of our staff live a considerable drive away from school and in rural villages, themselves. We take into consideration everyone’s circumstances when making such a difficult decision.
- This will be done via Class Dojo, Tapestry and the school website. Our school Facebook page will not be updated, as I do not use this from home. However, it is possible that the School PTA page will be updated with a message from a helpful member of the PTA.
- If this does occur, we will upload learning for every class as early as possible and we aim for 9:30am on Dojo, Tapestry and other sites guided by your class teacher. These will be consolidation tasks rather than new learning and, therefore, should be accessible for all.
- I never take this decision lightly and will be in full contact with our Chairs when deciding on the benefit of a normal school day over any danger to families on reaching us. Our routes to school are very rarely gritted as we do not feature on any major routes.
- Hopefully, these plans do not need to be put in place.
