It's the end of a very busy week in school across all classes. Year 1 Phonics screening and Year 4 Multiplication Tests took place effectively, and a huge thanks to the teaching teams of Mrs Lucas and Mrs Foster-Burnell in these year groups for their organisation and efforts on behalf of our pupils. We also welcomed our September 25/26 families for a very informative talk and, again, the efforts from Mrs Carter, Miss Kelloway, Mrs Chedzoy and Miss Quartly to put so much detail into our packs is massively appreciated by me.
SAFEGUARDING is always at the core of a school’s day to day work, so just a few things to note as we move into the final weeks of this school year:
- The weather forecast looks fair for next week and beyond, so please ensure that pupils have their suncream applied and any in their bags should they need it. We are happy to remind them to apply it, along with wearing their sunhats.
- I would encourage more families to use our drop-off in the morning. It should be a simple turn-in and drop-off for families, meaning our roads are clearer and safer at those key times in the morning.
- Please stay off our yellow zig zags. They are situated at critical points of exit for our school and need to always be clear.
- Our after school clubs allow the flexibility in pick-up times and naturally thin out the number of cars at pick-up time. Sometimes, however, scenarios result in lots of cars on our roads simultaneously. At these times, please drive carefully and be aware of your speed past parked cars.
- If someone else is picking up, you need to let us know. Please do not be upset if we hold onto your child until the confirmation has been received by us, even if we know the parent!
THANK YOU to everyone that contributed to today’s DDF. With over £200 raised, I can now approach the task of choosing a suitable bench to sit in our school grounds.
As many of you will be aware, Mrs Powell has been doing wonders with our choir, and she has a message to share:
“Thurlbear Choir are performing as part of St Peter's Church (Staple Fitzpaine) Festival of Music and Flowers next Friday 20 June at 4pm. This 20-30 minute concert is completely free to attend (donations welcomed) and the church are kindly making a donation to our school in return. There will be a cafe offering drinks and cakes for purchase. Parking for performers only is available at The Manor, by kind permission of the Dunn family. Coming from Taunton, the Manor’s driveway is first on the right after the church. It will be signposted. For others attending the concert, parking is in the field behind The Greyhound Inn car park and at Staple Farm, which is a short walk from the church.”
NEXT WEEK promises to be another busy one, with trips for Year 5 to Nettlecombe Court, Year 1 to Carymoor Centre and Year 6 attending their Moving Up service at Taunton Minster, as well as the choir performance and a select 7s attending Queens rugby tournament.
