Term 3 begins

Date: 27th Apr 2026 @ 7:53am

Our first week of the Summer Term has been a positive, sunny and productive 5 days across the school, minus our Friday internet woes. On Thursday, we welcomed the Assistant Director of Education for the Diocese of Bath and Wells for a surprise-walk-around and to experience the learning taking place, as she was in the area. She was very impressed with the learning relationships between staff and pupils, and noted how this led to the buzz around Thurlbear.
Next week, we welcome Mike Stoneman, Deputy Director of Education for Somerset who would like to visit us and talk education and Thurlbear School. I am delighted that professionals like these know about our (big) small, rural primary school and want to listen and work with us for the benefit of our pupils and the wider school community.
In school, our half term Christian Value is “Wisdom”, and our worships focus on listening to, and talking with, trusted adults in school, and making good and honest choices. Matthew 7 tells us of the wise and foolish man, and is one of our key stories in the Thurlbear journey.
Every class dojo should feature the class newsletter, setting out key learning for this half term, as well as any key dates for individual classes. These should keep families up to date with the vital components of Term 3 in specific year groups.
A few school notices to start the term:
King’s College will be offering hockey development sessions throughout the summer term for anyone keen to improve their skills on a Tuesday. I will post a PDF poster on the Y5 and 6 pages, as it is for these year groups.
A mentioned before, free tennis taster sessions are available for primary school aged children (5-11 years) indoors at Taunton Tennis Centre, based at the Blackbrook Leisure Centre and Spa in Taunton:

Monday 18th May 4-5pm
Tuesday 19th May 5-6pm
Saturday 23rd May 10-11am

To attend please register your child via the website link https://clubspark.lta.org.uk/TauntonTennisClub/EventsV2

Our own after school sports clubs are now on the gateway and ready for payment. Details will be on there, so simply click to get through. There are still spaces available in our clubs and we can simply add your child to the list.
We have had reports of headlice in some classes. Please have a family asap and help us stop any spread!
Attached is some information regarding a fundraiser at St Peter’s Church May 2nd. Our local churches always need support, financially or human, and this looks like a great day out. I was also delighted to attend an evening at St Andrew’s Church on Thursday, celebrating the helpers and congregation at that beautiful church. Our links to the church community are always a source of pride for our children and myself.

As always, we will maintain a regular update service on Class Dojo.
