The Parents and Teachers Association - in short, anyone who has a link with the school! We are a registered charity with the aim of furthering the education of pupils by providing facilities, equipment and activites not normally provided for within the school budget.

All parents and staff at Thurlbear CE VA Primary School are members of the PTA, which exists to promote a sense of community and raise funds for additional school resources and activities.  At its AGM each Autumn Term a group of volunteers agrees to run the organisation and all parents are encouraged to help and support its functions.

The money raised always benefits the children, and parents are kept informed about PTA events and how the money raised is spent.

Last year the PTA funded the development of our new playground equipment.

This year, they are working towards supporting the development of our Foundation Stage outdoor learning environment, development of new reading materials in school and much, much more.

Over the last couple of years the PTA has paid for:

  • visiting theatre productions
  • transport to school residential trips
  • pathway around the field
  • Forest School development
  • playground equipment for lunchtime play

We meet two or three times a term, but there is no need to come to all the meetings in order to be involved.  Meetings are either in the events at a local pub or at the end of the school day close to events for last minute planning!

How to get involved

We would very much welcome your ideas for new PTA events, how you would like to see PTA funds spent going forwards and of course offers of help at the various events currently in the calendar.  There are many ways that you can get in touch with the PTA either via our email;, via the suggestions box positioned in the School Office or in person.  There is usually at least one of us in the playground before or after school so please come and say hello!
