The Den

At Thurlbear CE VA Primary School we provide a Breakfast Club and an After School Club collectively known as ‘The Den’.  This is open to all primary aged children.  Sessions are held in our hall or in a classroom when the hall is in use.  The supervisors are Thurlbear staff, so all children know them well. A member of Senior Leadership is always on-site to assist and oversee the activities. 

A range of our staff are on duty each day and bring their own personalities and ideas to the sessions!

Breakfast Club
It runs from 8.00-8.40 each school day morning. The children have breakfast and are looked after until they ware taken around to the playground to join their classmates at gate-opening time.

After School Club
This runs from 3.30 until 5:15 pm each school day. The children are taken to the School Hall where they have a substantial snack (e.g. beans on toast / sandwiches / fruit and crackers). There is a variety of activities each week and free play opportunities. The programme is predominantly child-led with activities ranging from outdoor sports, craft and games. This is an excellent option for those pupils who do not want to join in with after school sports clubs but still want a little social time with peers.

The ethos of our school runs through Breakfast and After School Club, with older pupils helping younger friends to wash hands, do activities and generally socialise in a warm environment.
