Parent Governor Vacancy

Dear Parents/Carers

We have a vacancy for a Parent Governor to join the governing body at Thurlbear.  Governors play a key role in the school. The Parent Governor is elected to give a parental perspective in discussions and decisions.

The Governing Body is made up of parents, teachers and other members of the community.  Every term the Governing Body meets to support the work of the school, and together with the Head teacher, is responsible for making sure that the school provides a good standard of education for pupils and helps ensure the school meet its aims. You may also sit on other sub-committees linked to the skills you bring to the board.

There are 3 main functions of a governor:

1. Making sure there is clarity in the vision, ethos and the strategic direction of the school

2. Holding the Head teacher to account for the educational performance of the school and the performance management of the staff; and

3. Making sure that the school spends its money effectively.

If you would like to become a Governor please express your interest via email to the Clerk to the Governors, Mrs Helen Hill via  HHill3@educ.somerset.gov.uk by Wednesday 7th July 2021.

Where there is more than one applicant an election will be held and each candidate will be asked to submit a short statement (no more than 100 words) setting out why they would like to be a Governor and what skills they can bring to the Board. These statements will be provided to all parents, who will then be asked to vote for their preferred candidate.

If you would like to discuss any aspect of the role further before making an application please contact either the Clerk to Governors or Chair of Governors, Sue Tier on  STier@educ.somerset.gov.uk
