Parent Governor Voting begins

Parent Governor Election:

Today, a voting paper will come home with your child. On this, there will be 3 candidates who have all provided a statement of how they feel they could contribute to the life of Thurlbear School as a governor.

The government has high expectations of those in governance and that as an individual who is part of the corporate body for a maintained school, they will have a strong focus on 3 core strategic functions:

1. Helping set the school vision, ethos and strategic direction;

2. Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, the performance management of staff;

3. Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure that its money is well spent.

Thurlbear governors also hold a key role in overseeing the suitability of our premises and health and safety practices that are carried out.

These functions underpin the criteria that Ofsted (the Office for Standards in Education) use to judge the effectiveness of those in governance in all maintained schools and academies.

Each parent/carer must vote on a separate form and each parent/carer is entitled to ONE vote each. Please vote by placing X against the candidate of your choice. Papers recording more than one vote, or marked in any other way, will be invalid. Once you have made your anonymous vote, please return the ballot paper to school with your child. These will be placed in a sealed box. Completed ballot papers MUST be returned to school by 3:30pm Wednesday 24th November 2021. Returned papers after this date will not be counted. These votes will be collected and counted by Helen Hill, Clerk to the governors. The results of this will be published as soon as possible after the 24th. Some families may receive more ballot papers than they need! Please only use one per parent/carer.
